How are you integrating equity into your work with the reentry workforce?
AIR integrates equity into our work by dismantling structural barriers that lead to racial and other disparities. In addition, we support the development of community-driven solutions to address the root causes of harm and trauma across various systems by partnering with people with lived reentry experience and other reentry leaders who implement practices to increase diversity, accessibility, and inclusion. We aim to scale strategies grounded in equity, boost our impact by working with our community partners, and promote access to resources and opportunities for all people to thrive.
What do you believe needs to change to help people with records gain equity in society?
First, the stigma around having a record must change, and we must eliminate policies and practices that systematically exclude people with records from resources and opportunities that will advance their dignity, safety, and ability to thrive in society. We must include people with lived experience with the justice system, lift and amplify their voices, and provide opportunities for them to lead and drive change that eliminates discriminatory policies and practices and promotes equity.
